OBJECTIVES
Students will explore the sense of sound through art.
Students will learn how to describe & discuss different sounds in art/environment.
Students will explore how sounds are a part of our world.

1. What sounds do you hear?  What do you see?  Do they match?
2. What do these sounds make you think of?  What do these sounds make you feel?
3. What is your favorite sound?  What is your least favorite sound?

ACTIVITY
As a group we will make a sound installation. Ask everyone to stand in a circle and follow the leader. The leader will first rub their hands together, next they will snap their fingers, then clap their hands and finally end with stomping their feet for a thunderous rainstorm. After the leader has gone through the steps everyone will join the leader in following their actions and creating the sounds of the storm together. The leader can reverse the order and soften the storm back to a light drizzle. What other sounds can you create in the sound circle? Take turns as the leader. If you need help, everyone can brainstorm what other sounds to make (i.e. a train passing by, a rollercoaster, waking up in the morning, typing on a typewriter, etc.).
