The artists exhibited in SHRINE, our newest exhibition in our Monterey Annex, are part of the Sibyls Shrine arts collective and residency program rooted in radical care, rest and support for Black women, womxn, trans women, and femmes who are m/others and identify as artists, creatives and activists in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — and beyond.
With well-being in mind, we invite Northside neighbors to the Mattress Factory for an evening of Yoga with Alecia Dawn, Tuesday, July 26th 6:00–7:00 PM. Alecia is an interdisciplinary artist and Northside community educator who explores embodied creative practices as an invitation to heal. Her creative works honors the humanity of Black motherhood – using pattern, color, and line to document and explore her lived experiences. She believes that creating art and creating life are connected and invests her time in people, projects and communities that explore these practices. In 2018 she founded the creative wellness studio YOGAMOTIF, and is honored to support her community through prenatal yoga and art-based workshops. Alecia holds a Master of Arts Management from Carnegie Mellon University, Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alfred University, and is a Sibyls Shrine artist resident.
The event is free with registration. No prior yoga experience is required and beginners are welcome. When you arrive at the Museum, show the front desk attendant your email receipt, which you will receive when you register here.
Please try and arrive 15 minutes before the start so we can avoid interrupting anyone’s practice during Alecia’s guided instruction.
