Description

Mr. Roboto’s Project seeks to build up a collection of independent and alternative magazines that frequently slip under the radar of many bookstores and libraries. Part of the collection is exhibited here, partly in the hope that visitors may care to donate similar material to the collection.

About the Artist

The Mr. Roboto Project is a cooperatively-run show space, art gallery and zine library located in Wilkinsburg (right outside the Pittsburgh city limits.) Our aim is to create a comfortable and open space for people to experience a true DIY (do-it-yourself) community. There exists a unique artistic and activist community which arises out of Pittsburgh’s local punk community. Throughout the years this community has found various outlets for their expression, but there were few that we could claim ownership. Since November of 1999, The Mr. Roboto Project has been an attempt to create such a space: for the kids, by the kids. As a cooperative, the direction that the project takes is up to its members. Monthly meetings are held where members can get together to discuss the future of the project. Members elect a five person Board of Directors who handle the day-to-day decision making for the Project. To contact Roboto, please email info@therobotoproject.org.
