Jerstin Crosby

ON THE INSIDE

2011

This play is a reflection on the (im)possibility of accepting diversity and the other. The fragmented body of the neoplasm—the fruit of unstable conditions—overcomes barriers, loves and denies itself and others, wanders around, forgetting its profession. It frequently and with pleasure divides, goes through dangerous palpation, questions the possibility of contact with the experience of the other. Poorly brought up but very successful, it invites us to a trans-species transition.

Nulla eu tortor vel ex volutpat efficitur. Vivamus placerat turpis in aliquet venenatis. Quisque ac lacinia mauris. Nam quis lobortis elit. Vestibulum sagittis nisi sit amet euismod hendrerit. Mauris non sodales odio. Donec efficitur molestie quam, sed lobortis massa vestibulum ut.

Nunc at arcu sodales nisi porta euismod non vel neque. Phasellus at lobortis ante, in suscipit justo. Proin non purus vitae nisi molestie consectetur. Vestibulum volutpat lobortis interdum. Vestibulum pretium ligula lorem, egestas ultricies lectus ultricies ac. Curabitur venenatis vulputate dolor.

Through video, sculpture, and two-dimensional works, Crosby makes reference to a spectrum of source material, like the classic rock hit Smoke on the Water, Magic 8 Balls, Eminem, Alf, and KFC bucket-wearing guitarist, Buckethead. This contextual paradigm draws strength from Crosby’s free-associative processes, where darkly humorous combinations become syntagmatic shrines to animal rights and environmental activism.

About The Artist

Jerstin Crosby creates interdisciplinary works that combine seemingly unrelated contexts into forms that are both humorous and subversively dark. His broad approach to art encompasses an array of individual art projects, and collaborations, in addition to working as a designer, and a publisher of artist editions. His work has been exhibited internationally, at Cell Projects in London, the 9th Shanghai Biennial in China, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Exit Art, La Galería de Comercio in Mexico City, and Kallio Kunsthalle Taidehalli in Helsinki. He received an MFA from the University of North Carolina and is the Founder of Acid Rain, a project that distributes artwork through mass media such as television broadcasts and electronic publications. His projects have been written about in publications such as ARTFORUM, and Art Papers, among others.
